Life Update: Speeches, OOTDs, Current Obsessions, Sneakpeak Blogpost, Etc!

Hello my gorgeous readers! Today I wanted to take the time out to kind of play a little round of catch-up. While the snow storm is raging outside (I think Elsa took over Michigan) I thought what better time to blab about life?! I thought I would share some happy things that have recently just happened, some of my recent obsessions, and other things of that nature! Without further adieu I am going to start talking about this insane mash of wonderfully beautiful things. TEN REASONS MY LIFE IS KIND OF REALLY SUPER AWESOME RIGHT NOW: 1. GIVING SPEECHES: Oh my lord. Speeches. Oral Communication 1010. The (required) class I have dreaded my short two years of being at college. Speaking in front of people may be my second absolute worst fear on the planet. So my second week in this class I was supposed to give an impromptu speech (we didn't know what question we would be asked). However we ran out of time so I wasn't able to go which meant I had to give TWO speeches this past Friday. Um. Hyperventilation. In case you were wondering, yes, I am that girl who almost cries while talking. So my second speech had to be a narrative speech about myself, so I picked the easiest thing I could think to talk about, blogging. So I get to class, my heart is POUNDING and I have to give my impromptu which turned out to be the strangest question ever but it was funny and didn't have to be long so it was okay. Then came what I was really nervous about, my narrative speech which had to be 3-4 minutes. A death trap basically. I'm sitting in my seat, trying to breath deeply and slow my heart rate and then it is time. Mind you I am the only student going up without notecards. Nailed. It. Every time I felt like my voice was getting a little shaky I reminded myself that I was speaking about something I loved and I saw my classmates nodding their heads and agreeing with what I was saying. I got a 100%. Speak about what you love and feel passionate about. It can change everything. image SHIRT: Forever 21 NECKLACE: J.Crew Factory NAILPOLISH: Essie "Bikini So Teeny" 2. RADIANT ORCHID: Or Pantone's color of the year! This is making me extremely happy because I am OBSESSED. I am adoring this color right now and happen to be wearing a shade of it this very moment... Is it not so absolutely springy and pretty and girly? And making me wish all this snow would please stop coming into the world (Christmas alone is acceptable). Weirdly I think this color really compliments my light skin tone, blonde hair, and blue eyes. What I really love about this color though is how it actually looks good on literally everyone. Score. Expect to see A LOT of this color on my blog Instagram (@simplyraquelcollette)! Also how precious is this Forever 21 sweater? Pearl sweaters are the way to my heart, after socks. image SWEATER: Forever 21 NECKLACE: Target 3. HAPPY SONGS: My blogging/reading/doing homework/theme-to-my-life-playlist. There is just something so uplifting about listening to light and airy music that can just turn my whole day around! I have a playlist on Spotify going on right now that I listen to whenever I just need a little extra happy! Naturally I needed to share these with you so you can have a little extra happy too(: Here are a few of my favorites right now! *INGRID MICHAELSON: CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE *INGRID MICHAELSON: THE WAY I AM *YAEL NAIM: NEW SOUL *FEIST: MUSHABOOM *FEIST: 1234 *REGINA SPEKTOR: FIDELITY *REGINA SPEKTOR: HOTEL SONG *REGINA SPEKTOR: EET *REGINA SPEKTOR: BETTER *REGINA SPEKTOR: US *A FINE FRENZY: ELECTRIC TWIST *A FINE FRENZY: BLOW AWAY *A FINE FRENZY: WHAT I WOULDN'T DO *A FINE FRENZY: THE WORLD WITHOUT Okay I guess that was more than a few... 4. THIS OPAL NECKLACE: Although I have been REALLY good about shopping this month I couldn't resist buying a little present for myself for surviving my speech. I was at Target (naturally) and saw this Opal necklace that I could NOT leave behind. The more I looked at it the more I knew it needed to be mine. I absolutely LOVE the fact that instead of just a plain white necklace it is iridescent and has gorgeous coloring. I think you can match this necklace with any color and it would be beautiful. Also it looks fabulous with radiant orchid...coincidence? I think not. Plus it wasn't too expensive! This girl is excited! And this girl also knows this necklace will be on repeat...sorry to my Instagram followers in advance. image NECKLACE: Target 5. SOCK MONKEY...YES. This needs absolutely no explanation. Just look at this picture and tell me that it is not adorable. And notice all the fun Valentine's decor. It is happening and I'm in love. image SOCK MONKEY: Party City MUG: Target HEART STRAND: Michaels 6. DONUT MUGS: This is actually real life. Because I was at Target yesterday I so obviously was curious about the Valentine's Day collection they had out this year. I was NOT disappointed. I was specifically drawn to the mugs and I was dying a little inside at all the cuteness. It was an adorable overload. I have a weird obsession with mugs even though I don't have my own house...makes no sense. But this donut one caught my eye and I thought "hey, I don't have a Valentine so I get to buy myself this donut mug". Makes perfect sense right? If you were wondering how I could leave the "I love you a latte" one behind...let me tell you it was a major struggle against want and willpower. My heart saddened a little. Another time I had to tell myself. I mean I thought that it would be hard to beat the Paris and Wiener Dog theme they had last year but DONUT MUGS. Dying over it. But seriously this is the happiest mug. Ever. image MUG: Target 7. FEBRUARY: The month of love, pink, and my existence! Or as it may be defined in the dictionary...The Greatest Month Alive. It is coming people and I couldn't be more excited! I have always loved February, aside from the fact that it beholds my birthday (the 9th) and not counting the fact that I don't have a Valentine. It is so lovey and pink and cutesy and sparkly and chocolatey! Envious of my fabulous descriptive words? That's why you read my blog right?...I have always adored it and think that Valentine's Day doesn't have to be limited to a significant other! I am grateful beyond words for all the people in my life whom I love! Plus it is kind of big birthday year for me...the big 2-0. Bring it on February! PS: Number 5, 6, and 7 have absolutely NOTHING to do with my next blogpost....;) 8. HOLLOW CITY: As some of you may know from my "Reading with Raquel" post I reviewed the books I just read and told you a little about the one I'm reading now (Hollow City by Ransom Riggs)! Okay. Not to repeat myself with explaining the story, I just want to say this is such a GOOD book. It is action-packed and intense and a little scary to read at night. Which may not sound appealing but I am seriously enthralled! I think this book is a great second addition so far and is already as good as the first. I literally cannot not put it down, you may have to pry it out of my hands, and will encounter many more sleepless nights staying up to read this book! image HOLLOW CITY: Meijer (Way cheaper!) 9. THE LIEBSTER AWARD: For those of you who don't know the Liebster Award is given to newbie bloggers and nominated by other bloggers. Which is seriously so cool because it really brings the blogging community together and creates a support system. I was lucky enough and absolutely flattered out of my mind to be nominated twice by fellow bloggers. I never imagined that after just a few short months I would be nominated for an award! It has made me so happy and thankful for all my fellow bloggers who work so hard to post and keep their blogs going! Lots of hugs and kisses to all my lovely ladies! image 10. MY FANTABULOUS READERS: It is because of all you that I have kept this blog going and was able to be nominated. I can't believe that after just a few short months I have gained such devoted readers and been able to reach out to so many people! Even Instagram, which is only a small component of my blog, doing so well (almost 800 followers!!) is absolutely madness to me. I am so thankful each and every day that I have such wonderful people always commenting lovely things and telling me that I inspire them and that you all support me. However it is the other way around, because YOU are all the ones that inspire ME. I am so glad that I started this blog and really believe it was a good decision. I love that I have been able to create this space in which I can be myself and be creative and share bits and pieces of my life. See why my speech was easy? Because you guys make it easy! I am really just grateful for all the love you all give me and I want you to know I love all my readers! Infinite hugs and kisses! I hope you all have an absolutely marvelous Saturday! xoxo, Raquel

Just found your blog! I’m really enjoying reading it but I’m especially appreciative of your college advice post because I’m starting my sophomore year at a new college and needless to say, I’m a bit lost. I felt the need to comment on this one cause the songs on that list are some of my most played ones (especially ingrid and regina) plus I have the same target mug as you!
